How to write a Suno prompt

  1. Start with the genre, as specific as you can: "deep house" or "drill" rather than "electronic" or "rap".
  2. Add two or three signature sounds: the instruments that make the genre recognisable (log drums for amapiano, pedal steel for country).
  3. Add one or two moods, and the voice: female, male, a duet, a choir, or no vocals.
  4. Add the era or the production if it matters ("80s", "lo-fi", "live band"), and a tempo in BPM.
  5. Keep it to a short list. Long sentences and contradictions ("chill aggressive") blur the result.

Then write the lyrics with a tag on each section ([Verse], [Chorus], [Bridge]), one sung line per line. The syllable counter shows when a line is longer than its neighbours.

When the song doesn't come out right

  • Wrong genre: put the genre first and remove words that pull elsewhere ("cinematic" turns many songs orchestral).
  • Vocals where you wanted none: choose "instrumental, no vocals" and leave the lyrics empty.
  • Too slow or too fast: set the BPM; the genre's usual tempo is filled in for you.
  • Words slurred or skipped: shorten the lines and write numbers and names as they sound.
  • Refused prompt: remove artist names, song titles and lyrics you didn't write.

Frequently asked questions

What is a style prompt?

The few words an AI song generator reads to decide the sound: genre, instruments, mood, voice and tempo. In Suno it goes in the Style of Music box; the lyrics, with their section tags, go in the Lyrics box. This page writes the first and gives you the tags for the second.

Can I use an artist's name?

No, and this generator doesn't add any. Describe the sound instead: "breathy female vocals, 90s r&b, slow jam" says more than a name, and AI song generators generally refuse artist names.

Detailed prompt or short tags?

Use the detailed prompt where the style box takes long descriptions, as Suno's newer models do: it tells the generator what the drums, bass, chords, lead and mix should do, so the song sounds more like you meant it. Use the short tags where the box is small or the generator works better with a list.

Why is there a short version?

Some boxes take only a short style. This site's song generator takes 120 characters, so "Make it here" uses the first items that fit.

Is this made by Suno?

No. It's a free tool from AI Vocals Generator, which isn't affiliated with Suno. The prompts work in Suno and in other AI song generators, including the one on this page.

Do the section tags work?

Tags like [Verse] and [Chorus] mark where each part of your lyrics goes, and AI song generators use them to shape the song. They don't guarantee the length of each part: if a section comes out too long or short, make it again or move lines between sections.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit. Making the song on this site is the paid part.
