Does Spotify allow AI music? What its rules say

Updated · AI Vocals Generator

Yes. Spotify says "all music is treated equally, regardless of the tools used to make it", so a song made with AI can go on Spotify through a distributor. Its rules are about how AI is used: vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it, a spam filter stops recommending mass uploads, duplicates and artificially short tracks, and artists can disclose AI in the credits (Spotify's newsroom post of September 25, 2025, read on 2026-10-30).

What Spotify's AI rules say

RuleWhat it means for an AI song
Music made with AI is treated like any other"We support artists' freedom to use AI creatively": using AI isn't a reason to remove or down-rank a song.
Impersonation policyA voice that imitates a real artist is allowed only when that artist has authorized it. Generic AI voices are not impersonation.
Music spam filterUploaders and tracks using mass uploads, duplicates, SEO tricks or artificially short tracks are tagged and no longer recommended.
AI credits (DDEX)Rights holders can show where AI was used (vocals, instruments, production). Spotify says disclosing it won't down-rank a track.

How to release an AI song on Spotify

  1. Make the song with words that are yours and a generic voice: no cloned singer, no artist name in the style, no lyrics from someone else's song.
  2. Upload it through a distributor (Spotify takes music from distributors). Each distributor has its own rules on AI music, so read theirs before you upload.
  3. Say in the credits where AI was used, if your distributor offers it.
  4. Release songs one at a time with real titles and full lengths. Dozens of near-identical tracks are exactly what the spam filter looks for.

Can I release songs made on this site?

Yes. We claim no rights in what you make, and you may use your songs commercially, including on streaming services, as long as you have the rights to the words (and to the beat, if you uploaded one). The voices are generic AI voices, so there's no artist to impersonate. One song with two versions is $4.99.

Will I own the copyright?

Not always in the parts the AI made. In the US, the Copyright Office says purely AI-generated material isn't protected, while your own lyrics and your own beat are. Our guide on copyright and AI music explains what that means for a song.
