AI vocals off the beat? How to fix the timing
Updated · AI Vocals Generator
AI vocals follow your beat's tempo, but they aren't locked to it sample by sample, so a word can land a little early or late, more often late in a long beat. First move the whole vocal earlier or later in the mixer. If only some words drift, try the other take, or fix those words in your DAW.

The beat was made with AI for this demo. Take 2 of 2, as it came out; the mix is both tracks at full volume.
Fix it in the mixer
- Play the part where the vocal sounds off and listen to the first word of a line against the kick or snare.
- Move the vocal 10 to 20 ms at a time: earlier if it drags, later if it rushes.
- Switch to the other take: it's a different performance and often sits tighter.
- Download the mix as a WAV once it sounds right. The WAV keeps your timing and levels.
Fix single words in a DAW
- Download the vocal MP3 and drop it into your project at the very start (bar 1, beat 1), next to your beat.
- Find the late or early word, cut the vocal just before and after it, and slide that piece onto the beat.
- Use a short crossfade on each cut so there's no click.
Get a tighter take next time
- Beats with a steady tempo work best; tempo changes are harder to follow.
- Keep the lyric lines about as long as your beat's bars, and mark the hook with [Chorus].
- Shorter songs drift less than long ones.
